Mini How To.. Installing 64-Bit Adobe Flash Player in Firefox 3.6.13 in Ubuntu 10.10

The Ubuntu Documentation project is a great resource if you wish to find out how to do configure Ubuntu or its derivatives. Unfortunately, the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AMD64/FirefoxAndPlugins do not work as there is a typo in the name of the package to install 64-bit flash!

In section 2. Add sevenmachines’ PPA (make sure all package managers are closed first) after doing a sudo apt-get update the documentation says

sudo apt-get install flashplugin64-nonfree

If you run this line you will get "Unable to locate package flashplugin64-nonfree"

The reason is that the package name is now called flashplugin64-installer

So the line should actually read

sudo apt-get install flashplugin64-installer

Conrad Miguel E. Gozalo in his blog the geek brewery has written some simple instructions and a script on how to add the 64-bit version of Adobe Flash Player in Ubuntu 10.10. which

They can be found at http://conradmiguel.com/how-to-install-adobe-flash-player-on-64-bit-ubuntu-10-10-maverick-meerkat.

In the meantime I’ve contacted Dave Lentz about the documentation.
